Will it last? 5 signs your relationship is on strong foundations

24 September, 2023

In today’s blog, I’m going to talk about the essential signs that indicate a relationship is built to last. Whether you’re starting a new romance or seeking to strengthen an existing one, these five signs will guide you on your path to lasting love.

For those of you who don’t already know me, my name is Shelley and I’m a specialist relationship coach, helping individuals and couples all over the world learn vital relationship skills and create long-lasting healthy deep connections.

When I work with couples it is often very clear to me which relationships are set on solid foundations and which are the ones that need work, to re-establish a solid footing. I always look out for some of these key signs….

Sign 1 – Supporting Each Other’s Values

The foundation of a strong relationship lies in supporting each other’s values. When both partners respect and appreciate each other’s core beliefs, life goals and principles, it creates a deeper connection that can withstand the test of time.

By embracing open communication about your values and exploring how they complement each other, you will foster a sense of unity and understanding.

Sign 2 – Encouraging Each Other’s Growth

A relationship that encourages personal growth is a promising one. When both partners support and uplift the dreams and aspirations of the other, it creates an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Couples that celebrate one another’s successes and provide a shoulder during challenges, can nurture a bond that grows stronger with time.

Sign 3 – Effective Communication

Communication is the lifeblood of any lasting relationship. Couples who communicate openly, honestly and empathetically build a strong emotional foundation.

Those who listen actively and express their feelings are more receptive to their partner’s needs and can balance getting their needs met with their partners. Honest conversations foster trust, paving the way for a healthier and more intimate connection.

Sign 4 – Shared Activities

Couples who enjoy spending quality time together have a greater chance of longevity. Engaging in shared activities, hobbies, and adventures not only creates lasting memories but also strengthens the bond between partners.

Partners with common interests who explore new experiences together keep the excitement alive in their relationships.

Sign 5 – Resilience Through Challenges

A relationship’s true strength is tested during challenging times. Couples who navigate difficulties with resilience, compassion, and teamwork have a higher likelihood of lasting love and there is no relationship that doesn’t experience challenges!

Embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and approaching them as a united front is powerful. If you can overcome obstacles together, you will strengthen the emotional bond and solidify the foundation of your relationship.

So, there you have it – five essential signs that your relationship is built to last.

Remember great relationships don’t just happen, they are made. Nurturing a lasting connection requires effort, understanding, and genuine love.

Embrace supporting each other’s values, encouraging personal growth, communicating effectively, enjoying shared activities, and facing challenges together with strength and compassion.

Until next time, sending you lots of love and wishing you meaningful and long-lasting healthy relationships!
